Bard College is a private college in the public interest. Bard is an independent, residential college of the liberal arts and sciences, located at Annandale-on-Hudson in Red Hook, New York. Bard College seeks to inspire curiosity, a love of learning, idealism, and a commitment to the link between higher education and civic participation. Building on a 164-year history as a competitive and innovative undergraduate institution, Bard College’s mission has expanded across the country and around the world to meet broader student needs. The nearly 2,000 undergraduates at the Annandale-on-Hudson campus come from all regions of the country. Over 18 percent of the student body is international, representing more than 40 countries. "As Director of Human Resources, you will enter at a turning point in Bard’s history. As the key agent for the “human” part of the organization, Bard’s faculty, staff, and administrators will count on you for advice, support, guidance, and understanding as they continue their work in changing and unpredictable circumstances. Every person who works at Bard plays a role in the current and future success of our institution. In a world of computer-generated personhood, Bard aims to preserve the human, and for that, the Director of Human Resources is a critical position at a critical time. I look forward to meeting you!" — Coleen Murphy Alexander, '00, Vice President for Administration
